The Comprehensive Plan guides the overall growth and development of the City of Arlington. The Comprehensive Plan is the umbrella document guiding future land use management decisions from redevelopment projects through development of new subdivisions. Local controls such as the City’s zoning and subdivision ordinances, the capital improvement plan, special protection overlay districts and the like assist in implementing the Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan identifies the type, amount, and pattern of growth that has taken place within the City and utilizes this information for the planning of future growth. This Comprehensive Plan begins with a vision statement which describes how current day planning process participants described what the City will look like in the year 2030. Implementation actions for fulfilling the City’s vision are described through goal statements and objectives and policies employed throughout the document.
